If you have Psych with Roberts. Perhaps even AP Bio with Cheskaty. If you have a class towards the back of the school, you have heard hammering, drilling, or some other noise – causing your teacher to close the door – from the construction sites near the back fence.

For the first time, 120 freshmen coming from Design 39 have added to the regular 500 from Oak Valley. We’ve almost reached our max on a campus designed for 2200 kids, thus initiating the call for new classrooms.

“When you go past 2150 students, you feel it, when you get that close to the edge.” said Mizel when asked how Del Norte had the capacity to fit so many students. “What we’ve been doing the last two years is having teachers like Katherine Bell who teach in two or three different classrooms during the day.”

Our principal began advocating for this construction project two years ago. However, negotiations and other factors weighed on the starting of the project down by several months. Mizel assures us that “It wasn’t sneaking up to me, I saw it coming”

As our community continues to grow, we can anticipate more construction to follow as we need to accommodate the larger populations enrolling at Del Norte.
